
Horticulture and Outdoor Recreation covers a lot of ground in careers relating to commercial landscaping, food based hydroponics, arboriculture (tree care), forestry, canoeing, outdoor survival, hunting, fishing, and guiding. A strong emphasis is placed on current “best practices” of maintaining, working in, and enhancing the environment. Our campus greenhouses, hydroponics / training laboratories, school grounds, Bangor City Parks and Forest, local streams, rivers, and ponds offer you interesting ways to learn about plant identification, hydroponic food production, forestry practices, tree care operations, canoeing, fish and wildlife management, guiding, and much more.
Topic areas include:
– Landscaping – Tree climbing techniques
– Hydroponics – Chainsaw usage and maintenance
– Canoeing – Wilderness survival
– Fishing – Climbing
– Orienteering
3 high school credits for each year
